Sorry, this activity is now closed for applications.

Come and join us as we deliver our annual Summer Camp for VI teenagers.

The VICTA Summer Camp is now in its third year after two successful camps which were the first in the UK for teenagers with a vision impairment. You will be instrumental in helping us create a welcoming and inclusive setting so that campers feel safe and are able to challenge themselves, try new activities, develop new skills and make friends.

Across eight action-packed days, you will be crucial to providing the energy and enthusiasm on camp with many campers experiencing their first extended time away from home. You will support the campers to take part in lots of new and life changing experiences that will encourage them to develop key skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving as well as increasing their independence and resilience. In the evenings, there will be campfires, games and the opportunity to listen and network with some VICTA young adults who have gone on to have success in sport, business and many other fields.

As part of the commitment to volunteering at this camp, volunteers are expected to attend the training day at Dearne Valley on Saturday 17 August where you will receive your welcome pack and t shirts, meet other volunteers and learn more about the camp and your role. Accommodation and food will be provided for the additional day for training.  There is a group meal out on the Saturday evening which you will need to cover the cost of.

Volunteers are reimbursed up to £50 travel expenses.

Here’s what last year’s volunteers had to say about the 2023 camp:

  • “The camp was fantastic”
  • “[Activity staff were] Very enthusiastic and helpful and keen to learn and adapt to children with visual impairments”
  • “Very helpful and supportive”
