The VICTA Summer Camp is now in its second year after a successful inaugural camp which was the first of its kind in the UK for teenagers with a vision impairment. Across 8 action-packed days as a volunteer you will be vital in supporting them to create memories and build new friendships that last a lifetime.
We want to create a welcoming and inclusive setting so that campers develop a sense of safety and feel compelled to take risks, try new activities, make new friends.
VICTA Summer Camp volunteers will also be crucial to providing the energy and enthusiasm on camp with many campers experiencing their first extended time away from home.
You will support the campers to take part in lots of new and life changing experiences that will encourage them to develop key skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving as well as increasing their independence and self advocacy.
During the day, not only will you take on some thrill-seeking fun such as raft building, crate stacking and the zipwire but you will also be participating in conservation work, contributing to the sustainability of the local environment through the John Muir Award.
In the evenings, there will be campfires, games and the opportunity to listen and network with some VICTA young adults who have gone on to have success in sport, business and many other fields.
As part of the commitment to volunteering at this camp, all volunteers are expected to attend the training day at Dearne Valley on 19 August where they will receive their welcome packs and t shirts, meet other volunteers and learn more about the camp and their roles. Accommodation and food will be provided for the additional day for training.
All volunteers will be reimbursed up to £50 travel expenses.
