Standing on the house terrace giving a speech to the guests

My name is Hayden Smith from Sawbridgeworth, I am running the 2025 London Marathon for VICTA (hopefully in 3 hours and 30 minutes). I work in finance and my hobbies include golf and football.

What were the steps you took to organise this event?

The first step was to get together a number of people to play the event, after this I had to negotiate a good price with the golf club. Then I could ask for money from each person playing (enough to pay the golf club and for charity donations and drinks, snacks and prizes). Then I went to Costco and bought loads of food and drink for people to have and donate towards while they were playing their round of golf. Luckily my mate’s sister is a professional photographer so she agreed to help out for the day!

What was the highlight of the event for you?

The highlight of the event was the moment after we all started and I knew it had come together perfectly. It was a fantastic day and luckily it was the last day where we had nice weather!

Were there any challenges you faced along the way?

The challenge at first was making sure there were enough people to play in the event and making sure all the money was paid so I could pay the golf club and buy everything which was needed for the event.

Would you organise an event like this again and would you recommend this to others?

Definitely! It raised £310 in one day. I will organise another golf day in the Spring and I will attempt to organise a quiz over Christmas.
